Warmists like Griff being silly

First Griff, made this comment at Watts Up With That?,which happens to be the very first one in the thread, where he make silly overconfident claims of Arctic sea ice extent being the lowest any time since 1850.Doubt me,well here is his entire comment for you to decide for yourself:

September 2, 2016 at 6:57 am

The arctic sea ice record now extends with confidence back to 1850 – and now it is lower than ever. This article gives background to the latest comprehensive assembly of arctic sea ice data:

“the new dataset allows us to answer the three questions we posed at the beginning of this article.

First, there is no point in the past 150 years where sea ice extent is as small as it has been in recent years. Second, the rate of sea ice retreat in recent years is also unprecedented in the historical record. And, third, the natural fluctuations in sea ice over multiple decades are generally smaller than the year-to-year variability2

Arctic sea ice is now the second lowest in the satellite record (i.e.second lowest since 1850)

and we haven’t hit 2016 minimum yet…

Many replies comes along pointing out the shabby claims Griff made, that wasn't hard to make, since there is a wide gulf between high (1973-2016) and low resolution data sets (1850-1972) and Anecdotal records, that alone would make difficult if not impossible to determine what was the Arctic Sea Ice level really was in 1850 and so on.

Here is the very next comment by a GEOLOGIST,David Middleton, who writes in reply:

Quote:Splicing a high resolution satellite data set onto a low resolution reconstruction from old maps and anecdotal records is just Hockey Sticking,

That said, sea ice should have covered a much larger area in the 1800’s. Neoglaciation reached its peak in the 1800’s.

There are many intelligent take down in the thread, worth reading for Skeptics who wants to see just how silly warmists can get, over Arctic Sea Ice level claims.

It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies.
