Sagan's goosebumps.
A Science Icon Died 17 Years Ago. In His Last Interview, He Made A Warning That Gives Me Goosebumps.

In science the first person who should try to disprove anything, is the person who says it is so in the first place. If he / she can not, then it is opened up for ANYONE to show it is not true. AND that is a never ending process.

A couple of paraphrases / quotes from the interview.

If we are not able to, or allowed to, interrogate those that tell us something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we are up for grabs from the next charlatan that comes ambling along... and there will always be charlatans ambling along....

The people have to be educated, and they have to practice their skepticism, otherwise we don't run the government, the government runs us, with pseudo science and / or religion... Or better still, a heady, apparently morally right mixture of the two.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed
(and hence clamorous to be led to safety)
by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken.

The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that
"they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions.
Agree - very true and to the point!
- I cant remember where I read it but it went something like -
"let truth be your authority, dont allow authority to be your truth"
along the same lines and very condensed.
I am going to get some use out of those quotes. Thanks Derek.
