Disk Space
#1
Hello readers,

I am already at 100% of the Disk Space level on my Server host account, and the Monthly Bandwidth Transfer might reach 100% before the end of the month.

This means I will have to upgrade the account to make everything run well. This means additional cost added on for the years package I have already paid.

However if the Blog and Political Divide forum does not justify my effort to maintain in the coming months.I may shut them down and then there will be a lot of room in the account for THIS forum to work with.

Why am I telling you all this? To let you know that I am trying to make this whole thing run,but may have to ask for help later IF more forum and blog traffic picks up significantly.

Cheers,

Sunsettommy

Well, as far as the forum is concerned I think most of us are here for the long run.
I always felt, and have said, the forum was undervalued, and the way to go.
One forum, one blog, is my suggestion.

SST - You have made all the right decisions so far, and have given "alternatives" a good airing, in my opinion.
I am as certain as I can be you'll make the right (and balanced) decisions going forwards.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed
(and hence clamorous to be led to safety)
by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that
"they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions.

Some folks provide a PayPal button where those that want to help can donate.

Just a suggestion.

Yes there is one there already at the BLOG,but no donations for many months. But then there are only a few registered members there for the ability to post comments. The public at large are not highly motivated to send any support.

I have a different plan to raise some money, since I am not in it for the money, but to pay for the cost of the account.I think it works better and one that I will be open with everyone here on how much I would need to meet the basic operations of this forum.I have seen it done on some forums.

It is a donation drive with a specific $$$ target posted from the start,to meet the needs of the forum.Once the targeted amount is reached, the donation drive ends.

I think when people who are supporters of a forum knows what is needed funding wise, they are more likely to provide support, since it will be known what is really needed,Not to pay ME,but to maintain the forum.

I am hoping someday to have this forum SMF homepage theme remade to a CLIMATE based theme that is appropriate for this forum. It could cost several hundred dollars to do that.Steve did that in the old PNP-Nuke set up that cost him around $250 and he tells me that was one of the cheaper ones.

If anyone still want to donate paypal wise will have to go to here:

I'm not sure how this board setup works, but on another board software I did essentially that - changed each of the various appropriate image "buttons" to a customized set for that forum (a computer help forum related to a local radio show).

For example, I changed where we have this image: [Image: on.gif] to this: [Image: smcd.gif]

Essentially, we keep the current general theme, but replace all of the appropriate button images with ones of our own.

In this same manner, we would replace this image on the top right of the current screen:

with our own image and words "Climage Change Skeptics Forum".

As long as the new images are the same size as the old ones, we don't mess up any of the forums formating and it's all good.

Is this worth pursuing, SST?

I have no idea since I have not looked into that yet.

I am thinking it would be better to first upgrade it to version 2.0 before I go adding a bunch of Mods and code changes, because they may all be wiped out during the version change from 1.1 to 2.0.

Possibly.

But once the new images are created, they can easily be put back in place if that happens.
