Apocalypse Not: Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Worry About End Times

This one is a sticky!

I find this article quite revealing on the mindset of people who see doom around the corner.

EXCERPT:

When the sun rises on December 22, as it surely will, do not expect apologies or even a rethink. No matter how often apocalyptic predictions fail to come true, another one soon arrives. And the prophets of apocalypse always draw a following—from the 100,000 Millerites who took to the hills in 1843, awaiting the end of the world, to the thousands who believed in Harold Camping, the Christian radio broadcaster who forecast the final rapture in both 1994 and 2011.

Religious zealots hardly have a monopoly on apocalyptic thinking. Consider some of the environmental cataclysms that so many experts promised were inevitable. Best-selling economist Robert Heilbroner in 1974: “The outlook for man, I believe, is painful, difficult, perhaps desperate, and the hope that can be held out for his future prospects seem to be very slim indeed.” Or best-selling ecologist Paul Ehrlich in 1968: “The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970s ["and 1980s" was added in a later edition] the world will undergo famines—hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked on now … nothing can prevent a substantial increase in the world death rate.” Or Jimmy Carter in a televised speech in 1977: “We could use up all of the proven reserves of oil in the entire world by the end of the next decade.”

Hi SST,

I found aspects of the article interesting, its definitely true to say that mankind has a penchant for predicting doom and gloom, recently there were alarmists predicting attacks at the Olympic games that might signal world change - that nothing out of the ordinary occurred came as no surprise!
I think the article would have been more successful in making the link predicting end times with religion in favour of anything else since it is authority of some form or another that usually instigates the scare! and usually much like the fear spread by the false religion of anthropogenic global warming it is designed to instil the same fear - creating a mechanism for control !

As you are probably no doubt aware the mechanism involving a hegelian dialectic of some kind is repeatedly used throughout modern society to garner control and some of the greatest lies have been ever been foisted on mankind are a result of this approach.

It is said that AGW is the greatest fraud against mankind, but I would argue that it is not.
I would argue that organised Religion most definitely is the greatest fraud and borne from it the two artificial paradigms of Politics and Law thus creating the framework by which to rule and to maintain control and enforced by policy officers and an army who claim to operate under the Force of Law!
Whereas I tend to think of them operating under the Law of Force!

The illusion of the Banking system where there is virtually 100% compliance globally is another area that needs consideration!
A system that operates in continual debt, under a fiat regime, continually borrowing from the central banks rather than each country creating its own currency is ludicrous to say the least.
Fractional reserve banking is a disaster waiting to happen, working on the basis of a 10% principal to sell loans - it is also a licence to print money.
Electronic transfer makes it easier for them and to some extent us! - it prevents bank runs but in the event of technological hiccup our dependence on their technology reveals our loss of sovereignty and our lack of control!
Economic conditions are wholly under the control of the central banks where in principal the maths of the economics system should be fairly straight forward. As there is no shortages of raw goods worldwide and any scarcity that is hyped by the msm (mainstream media) is generally regional and synthetic, then it is the exchange mechanism that is at fault for the recession ie the banking system!

I would have enjoyed the article more if it had included the above and maybe included the over population myth.
